Tropical Spring

Long time no see! It was a really long week. From morning to evening I went to work and to school, and I could enjoy beautiful weather only when I looked out of the window. If you are now in Prague, I envy you that you can enjoy these sunny days. Whenever I have such a boring week, I usually think about summer vacation destinations and about its tropical weather and colorful places...

As you know, Prague isn't really a place with these things. It's a historical city with a small number of parks. Nothing is bad about it, but sometimes I'm looking for places that will at least help me imagine such tropical places when I relax and learn something new.

So today we will move to a different part of Prague than the center, which I always write about. We will move to Troja. Where we can find two places with tropical flora and fauna. If you like animals you can visit out Prague ZOO. I loved the ZOO when I was a kid just because I could see the animals and how they actually look like and how they live. But I grew up and I believe that for many species we are breeding, it is better for them to be in their natural environment. Not here, in this weather. However, it is still and will be a nice experience for children. So I don't expect any change.

The other place is more morally acceptable and more interesting for me - The Prague Botanic Garden. Do I have any gardeners here? I hope so because the Botanical Garden is the place for you. The first exhibition of the Botanical Garden was created in 1992 and consists of a park with various plants. In addition, you can walk through the Japanese garden today, featuring maples, rhododendrons, bamboos, and bonsai trees. There was also an artificial mountain stream in which there are Japanese koi-carps. Furthermore, you can see the exposure of the plants of Turkey and the Mediterranean or a collection of irises.

In addition to the park and these expositions, there is Fata Morgana Greenhouse and it is the most visited part of the Botanical Garden. It is a modern building with a sigmoid ground plan. The greenhouse is divided into three parts, where you can find various tropical plants. Therefore, there is a different temperature and air humidity in each section.

At the moment the 11th year of the Orchid Exhibition is underway. That's why I recently visited the Botanical Garden. At the exhibition, you can see many species from South America, from big to small orchids. You can also see photos of these plants. At the same time, you will learn how to take care of orchids and also you can buy some of them after the exhibition. I also found out that students of the Czech Gardening Academy in Mělník helped with this exhibition. It's great to find out that young students are interested in working on such an exhibition.
