There is one building in Prague that always fascinated me, especially at night, because it is beautifully enlightened and I walk around it at least twice a day. The Municipal House, next to the Powder Tower, beautiful Art Nouveau building. Art Nouveau is very, very decorative and it's personally one of my favorite styles.
The Municipal House was designed by Osvald Polívka and Antonín Balšánek and you can find it in the center of Prague - Náměstí Republiky. Previously it was the King's Court. What you can see inside today is Mayor's Hall, where you can also find Alfons Mucha's work. Alfons Mucha and Art Nouveau. I do not need anything more when it comes to art.
There's also a French-style restaurant and pastry shop. Every day when I go around I can see through the windows, how many people there are inside. So if you wanted to be sure, I recommend making a reservation.
The largest area of the Municipal House is the Smetana Hall. By name, we pay tribute to the Czech creator Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák. The most played composer here in the Czech Republic. In the hall, we can see pastel decoration from Ladislav Šalon. On the one side, we can see a Dancing couple, which symbolizes work called Slavic dances by Antonín Dvořák. On the other, a legendary Lumír, who tells the homeland about My Country. My Country is a work compound by the symphonic poems of Bedřich Smetana.
The hall also reminisces other important Czech artists, they have portraits on the upper floor of the balcony and the lodges. A magnificent impression was also given to me by paintings of Karel Špilar. Just lift your head and see extensively big wall paintings.
In the Smetana Hall, there are mainly concerts of various artists and groups. But also important social events and gala dinners. The concert hall is made for up to 1,200 people, so when you buy the tickets in time, you do not have to worry. In the Smetana Hall, Prague opens and ends Prague Spring Music Festival. Today, I would like to tell you about a concert you may have heard about, or you are going to. On December 24th, the Christmas Eve (starts at 5 pm), The Concert of Mozart and Strauss will be performed by Dvořák's Symphony Orchestra Prague and others. If you are in Prague and you have no plans for 5 p.m., you already know how to fill the gap before unpacking all Christmas presents.
And if you can't make it, we also offer other concerts. In the Municipal House and in other concert halls across Prague. Below the photos, you will find links to both the Municipal House website and our website where you can still buy the tickets.
