"Náplavka" embankment

I think every city has such a place. A place that is ideal for meeting up with your friends. Rašínovo nábřeží or as we mostly like to say "Náplavka" is one of these places. It is a part of the central embankment of the Vltava river. For many people, it is the main meeting spot in the Prague center and I would like to give you a closer look at its current appearance.

When I heard about the "Náplavka" embankment rebuilding and the fact, that it will be for almost half of this summer closed for repairs, I was mad and a little skeptical about the whole project. Who needs improvement when the embankment itself is good, people use it and love it?

Now, after the reconstruction, I know that this project was a step for the better and that it helps the cultural life in Prague. One part of the "Náplavka" embankment is dungeons, the old faded holes. People just avoided them as much as possible until now. Thanks to the authors of this project - Petr Janda and studio Brainwork, who turned them into beautiful cafes and galleries. The authors invented that the dungeons will be glazed with a giant glass lens (big ground window).

The most interesting part is that each lens is specially designed to fit into each dungeon. The largest weigh up You can now see them for yourself because they are in operation since November!
