On Friday, I decided to go to the chateau in Lany, which is located just an hour by car from Prague in the direction of Kladno. There is a spacious car park in front of the castle, so you don't need to worry about parking. When you walk through the main gate of the park around the Lany chateau you have to turn right where you will find the cash desk, where you need to buy a ticket. Admission costs only 15 crowns. In the place where the box office is located, you can also take a look at old photos of the chateau.
The whole park on which the chateau is located is well taken care of. It is actually a park where you can walk or sit or take a blanket and have a picnic. There are also greenhouses within the park. One of them is built for tropical plants - palm trees, orchids and so on. There is also a seating area and a fountain. This area is super photogenic. So if you like to take pictures, this is the place for you.
The only disappointment is the access to the castle, which is barred by soldiers. So, unfortunately, you can only view it from a distance. The chateau serves and served the presidents of the republic as a summer residence, that is the reason why the chateau is guarded.
Lány Chateau is a late Renaissance building. It was built at the end of the 16th century when it was part of the property of the Rudolf II. According to available sources, it used to be only a little wooden building. And when Rudolph II. had it transformed into a hunting lodge.
In the 17th century, the Lany Chateau was rebuilt into a Baroque style by the Vajdštejn family and also increased by one whole floor. Later in the 18th century, the chateau had another reconstruction. This time the Fürstenberg family had it done. The Chateau grew again on the second floor. Also, the Church of the Most Holy Name Jesus was added next to the Chateau.
Since 1921, the chateau has served as the seat for the presidents of our republic. The Lany chateau is mainly associated with the first Czechoslovak president - Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, who spent almost 20 years here. Tomas Garrigue Masaryk was so enchanted by the chateau that he called it his home
Also nearby is the Museum of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. The main exhibition presents the personality of T. G. Masaryk and his family. And also the historical events that influenced their lives. The exhibition space also includes the permanent exhibition Masaryk in Fine Arts. Here you can see paintings by prominent Czech and foreign artists. Among the most interesting exhibits of the exhibition are the T. G. Masaryk Equestrian Suit, Charlotte G. Masaryk's Holiday Dress, Masaryk's Desk Diary and other items, which is pretty interesting.
