Hvězda park (Obora Hvězda)

I love walks with my dog and interesting architecture buildings and this place combine both.

The Hvězda park

The Hvězda park is located in Prague 6, more precisely in Prague - Liboc. Today the park serves mainly for recreation. You can use it in many ways. You can go for a run here or ride a bike. I go there mainly with my dog. When you have a dog in town, you will appreciate any green space, where you can go. In winter people use the park, for example for cross-country skiing. There is also an educational trail within the Hvězda park, which is dedicated to the history of the park and also to faun and flora. Moreover, an exhibition informing about the Battle of White Mountain takes place in the Hvězda summer residence. Hvězda summer residence was built upon request by Ferdinand I. This battle took place near Hvězda. This battle was one of the most important in our country.

The most significant period for the park was the Renaissance. Around the year 1500, Ferdinad I. established his own field. A wall was built around the park, and also more land was added. The hunting lodge was built upon request by Ferdinand I. Today, this hunting lodge is known as the Hvězda summer residence. It is a really interesting Renaissance building. Its ground plan is in the shape of a six-pointed star.

It was sad for me to find out that the Hvězda park was also very devastated, especially by monarchs and troops who were stayed in the territory throughout the years. The first was the army of the emperor Rudolf II. They used the forest as a source of wood and wild animals. During the Battle of White Mountain, a Swedish army camped here and chopped down a large part of the forest. The Sovereign Joseph II. used the Hvězda summer residence as a gunpowder warehouse. Later, hiding places for German SS troops were created here.

Despite everything that happened to the park, Czech environmentalist managed to return the field to its original state. They are still trying to replace the non-native to the original trees. Mainly beech and oak.
