Czech Eiffel Tower

When it comes to interesting places in Prague one of them is Petřín. Remember how I wrote an article about parks in Prague? One of them was Petřín on which I want to focus on today.

Do you know what is "hide" on its top? No? I can tell you! Iron Tower, the "similar" one which Parisians have in Paris. Many people in Paris did not like the Eiffel Tower at the beginning, but the Prague people knew immediately that something similar must also be in historic Prague.

Now it is one of the most visited places in Prague. And for that, we can thank the Czech Tourists Club, who once went to Paris to attend the World exhibition in Paris. And the biggest shock was the Eiffel Tower, that inspired club members Vratislav Pasovský (architect) and Vilém Kurz(writer) to join forces and project a similar structure. And as they returned to Czech, they did, only five times smaller.

Soon in the Czech Republic was created a group for construction Petřín Lookout Tower, which began to raise money and plan the whole project. Once everything was secured, construction could begin. And it really did not last long and in a few years, in summer 1891, the tower was opened. Due to the fact that the Petřín Lookout Tower is relatively up on the hill, the authors also built a cable railway, which carried visitors up and down. The cable railway fulfills its purpose even today.

Gigantic tower, measuring 63.5 m and weighing about 175 tons, has two viewing platforms. Upper at a height of 55 meters. And I have to admit that it has a magnificent view of the whole city!
