Medieval Silver mining UNESCO Royal Town of Kutná Hora 65 km East from Prague

The wealth of the Royal city of Kutná Hora was caused by the discovery of precious metals, especially silver and copper, used for currency production in entire Bohemian kingdom since 13th Century. This presence of silver ore started already in 12th Century truly “Silver rush” in future. Come to visit the city once called also as the jewel and the treasury of the country, town whose wealth elevated the Bohemian kingdom on the pedestal of fame and power. The start of mining and minting history of nearby Sedlec monastery is even dated back to 10th Century. From 13th Century Kutná Hora also became the seat of the central mint of the Czech lands, which was located in a small royal castle later called the Italian Court as a remembrance of Italian experts assisting with the planning and application of the minting reform.
In small layout of Kutná Hora district there is huge concentration of unique and exceptional monuments as Italian court, the countryside royal residence, eyewitness of important sovereigns’ decisions but the royal mint as well, gothic Saint Barbra cathedral, baroque Jesuits college or bizarre and unique Cemetery Church of All Saints with the Ossuary – the reason while Kutná Hora is visited in fact.
We will go by bus about one hour East from Prague, visiting charnel bone chapel of Sedlec (suburb of Kutná Hora), then we will move by bus more downtown visiting another reason for UNESCO since 1992 – St. Barbra cathedral as a mirror reflex to Prague St. Vitus cathedral but with silver mining activities motives. The rest of our visit will be relaxing walk through medieval and ancient city full of other precious monument on every corner. There will be also the time for shopping local souvenirs. And we will have a lunch at the most famous and historical restaurant.

The departure for Kutná Hora is organized from one of you recommended FEBS 2019 International Conference – hotel
Ariston, which is also located in close neighborhood of VŠE building. For arrival from city center by the public transportation the best is to take one of the trams No 2, 5, 7, 9, 15 or 26 and get off at Husinecká stop. You cross the street to the left and walk gently uphill about 5 minutes. The guide and the bus will be there.
