Kutná Hora was one of the most important and wealthiest royal towns of the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia. Although relatively small in size, its importance was extraordinary thanks to silver mining – this was the place where the famous Prague groschen coins were minted, influencing trade and economy across Central Europe. The prosperity brought by silver led to the construction of remarkable Gothic and later Baroque monuments, which earned Kutná Hora its place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
During the tour, you will discover the town’s most important landmarks – the famous Sedlec Ossuary, the magnificent St. Barbara’s Cathedral, the historic Italian Court connected with coin minting, and the atmosphere of its medieval streets. You will also see smaller architectural gems such as the late Gothic Stone Fountain, the unique Stone House, and the Baroque plague column. The story of Kutná Hora is not only about silver mining and wealth, but also about the lives of miners and the history of the local silver mines.
The meeting point is in Sedlec, a historic district of Kutná Hora, in front of the Tourist Information Centre next to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist.
The location is easily accessible by train from Prague. Direct trains from Prague’s Main Railway Station (Praha hlavní nádraží) arrive either at Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží or Kutná Hora město. From Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží, Sedlec can be reached within a few minutes by local train, bus, taxi, or on foot.
For guests arriving by car, parking is available near the Sedlec area and the Ossuary.
